News - October 2006

The Phantom made his annual appearance today, fighting for truth, justice and video games. He is indeed a sight to behold.

Dr. Stark-Vance has cleared me for a trip to Moldova. I met with her today to review vaccinations needed and meds to carry with me. More on Moldova to follow soon. My CBC results from today's visit look good.

Saturday, 28 October 06
The Division 2A marching champion Argyle High School Band is once again going to state - this time in UIL Division 3A. Looking forward to the competition next week in San Antonio!

Friday, 20 October 06
The '76 Trans Am 2006 Tour continues with a trip to Lewisville Muffler to address a couple of issues.

Sunday, 15 October 06
The 2006 Ft. Worth Light the Night walk took place tonight. This was my 3rd walk, and we had a great time while raising funding for blood cancer research, even in the rain!

Saturday, 14 October 06
Time for a haircut. Getting a haircut is a type of hygienic pit stop, like the recent automotive pit stops (car wash and oil change) and the much more significant medical pit stops at ISI.

Thursday, 12 October 06
Began the 1st half of the 17th round of chemo last night. This round is complicated by a virus/bug running around our family that is giving me an upset stomach and low grade headaches. The accutane makes my face feel hot and peel.

Monday, 09 October 06
Our Golden Retriever gave birth to 10 puppies on 15 October 2004; we had not seen any of her 10 puppies after they all found new homes - until this afternoon, when Aric and I met Gideon again for the first time.

Sunday, 08 October 06
Today's highlight is Ryan, master of the hat trick.

Waging an effective medical war against something like a brain tumor requires many individuals and many disciplines, including imaging technology. Today my Trans Am visits the Imaging Specialists Group.

Wednesday, 04 October 06
Today is the 32nd month anniversary of the beast extraction. Not sure how to describe how this feels and what the past months have meant to me - it is beyond words. Saying "Thank-you, Lord" with each heartbeat doesn't seem adequate, but that's all I have.

This is an exact repeat from last month, but bears repeating. I am supporting two events this year to help fund research to find a cure for cancer.

The first is Light the Night, which will be held Oct 15th in Ft. Worth. This will be my 3rd walk. Please take a look at a few pictures from last year's walk. My goal is $1000 and the webpage is www.active.com/donate/ltnDallas/jkline.

The second event is the Angel 5k (3.1 miles) for the National Brain Tumor Foundation (NBTF) on November 4th, also in Ft. Worth. This is the first time that the NBTF has done a walk. My goal for this one is $5000. I am about 40% of the way towards reaching this goal. Website is www.firstgiving.com/jerrykline.

Please visit these two sites and consider making a donation. I do not enjoy asking for money, but I cherish the thought of a cure for cancer!

Two events for my Trans Am yesterday (the September News page is "full" so I posted this note on October's page). First was a free car wash hosted by Oak Hills Community Evangelical Free Church in Argyle. Very friendly folks, some of whom I remember from the days when my children attended this church for the AWANAs program. We also know one family from Denton Bible Church. If you are looking for a small church with solid Biblical Teaching, check this one out.

The second TA event started out to be a simple oil change at Kwik Kar, also in Argyle, but several problems were identified with the car by the service technicians. There is an oil leak, the front ball joints are worn out, new tie rods are needed, the brakes need to be serviced and the new mufflers that were installed at a shop in Lewisville in February are scrapping the road. The muffler problem I already suspected, and I was already aware of a few other issues before the Kwik Kar visit today, including missing vacuum hoses that prevent air from being blown properly throught the vents, and the dried out and cracked rubber strips around the doors, hood and trunk. All of these problems will be addressed over a period of time. I have a lead on a certified mechanic whose shop is not but 10 miles from my home...
